Earth Layers

Ever thought about digging a hole to China? It sounds like a fun fantasy, but it's not really possible. You see, we're familiar with the surface of the earth, but the inside is much different. When you were younger, you may have heard that the earth is divided into layers. The old models of the earth have three layers.
This model of the earth resembles an egg. The crust is a thin, solid material with a lot of liquid underneath. The yolk of the egg represents the core of the earth, and is different from the liquid which surrounds it.

While an egg is a good model for the three layer plan, it is not entirely accurate. Scientists now use a plan which consists of five layers to represent the interior of the earth.

Let's find out more about the five layers.
